About

The Full Story

The Brittain family moved to the Lindley Estate all the way back in 1880. When the estate was sold off in 1920 Ernest Brittain bought the Lodge Farm having been a tenant before that. Since then the family have worked together to produce everything from strawberries to milk over 6 generations.

One constant on the farm has always been the presence of poultry. Christmas cockerels have been produced on the farm since the 1950s, since then we have expanded from producing a few for friends on the kitchen table to having a purpose built facility for processing and storage which has a 5 star food hygiene rating from the food standards agency.

Our free range birds share the pasture with sheep and are moved around the fields in their mobile housing to ensure fresh grass and foraging year round. This includes our hens and ducks. Their eggs can be bought in our shop on the farm along with local honey and other goods.

On arrival to the farm, you'll notice the crop field right in front of the shop, which is part of a much wider regenerative arable system, where the main goal is to produce high quality wheat for breadmaking. Take notice of how it changes throughout the year if you visit regularly.
